ENRICHED + HONORS: Middle Ages pen pal assignment guidelines

Please come to class tomorrow (Friday, 1/14) with a printed or handwritten copy of your Middle Ages pen pal assignment.  This is a letter, so it should be in letter format, not paper format.

Directions:
1. Choose to research and write from the perspective of one of people listed below.
2. Visit this website: http://edsitement.neh.gov/lesson-plan/not-everyone-lived-castles-during-middle-ages#sect-activities
3. Using the website above and/or other Internet and textbook resources, read and look at images about the typical lifestyle of the person you are writing as.
4. Write a letter to another person in the Middle Ages to introduce yourself and tell them about your life – include specific, realistic details about your daily schedule, your work, your religion, your level of wealth or poverty, your concerns/worries in life, etc. Keep track of your sources by writing down or copying URLs (web addresses) you use into a document.
5. Length: 1-2 pages. Quality over quantity.
6. Due Friday, 12/14.

People you can choose to “be”:

Serf
Noble (Duke, Duchess, etc.)
Knight (or knight-in-training – page/squire)
Clergy (priest, bishop, the Pope, monk, nun)
Royalty (King, Queen, etc.)
Soldier
Artisan (baker, blacksmith, etc.)
Merchant/trader

Questions your letter might answer:

What is your most prized possession?
What do you usually have for dinner?
What are you wearing?
What do you do for fun?
If you have children, what do you expect them to do every day?
What tools or implements do you use, if any?
What is your house like?
What is worst about your life?
What is best about your life?
What are your hopes for the future?
